England manager Gareth Southgate is keeping a close eye on young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. After making rapid progress with Manchester United.
The 18-year-old star has just made the step up from the academy. He join the Red Devils at the age of nine and has long been hail as the future. He made his debut with the first team in January 2023.
Mainoo has now made 14 appearances across all competitions for United and would have play many more had he not been injury during their pre-season tour of the United States in the summer.
“He’s done a great job,” the England manager said after the Nations League draw in Paris.
“I’m not sure he needs to play as a defensive midfielder like this.”
“He is quite a progressive player. But he’s already had a great start to his career. And it will be good to follow him as we look ahead.”
England will return to action in friendly games at Wembley against Brazil and Belgium as they prepare for Euro 2024 in Germany.
